Brent Mydland had the unfortunate luck to be the "new guy" for 11 years with the Grateful Dead, from 1979 until his untimely death in 1990. But for many of us who started seeing the GD in the early 1980s, he was THE guy, the only keyboard player we could ever imagine sitting there. His pre-GD work included a stint with Batdorf & Rodney, and later the band Silver (with John Batdorf), whose scant performance information is included here, and then a spot in the Bob Weir Band (covered on the Bob Weir Setlists page, along with his time in Bobby & The Midnites), before replacing Keith Godchaux in the Grateful Dead in the spring of 1979. His non-GD work during that tenure is limited, but I have attempted to present a consolidated list of performances here. Grateful thanks to the Lost Live Dead, Jerry Garcia's Middle Finger, and Jerry's Brokendown Palaces blogs.
